The "Thank You" choices in the drop-down listing are managed by Thanks-o-meter.com staff. We update the listing periodically to reflect the most common selections and write-ins. If you do not see a choice in the drop-down listing that matches what you're looking for, simply enter the 'Thank You' you want to share in the text box provided. If enough people enter the same write-in, we'll add it to the drop-down listing.
The "Feelings" check boxes are managed the same way, but we allow you to select multiple emotions for each submission. If the choices we offer do not match the emotions you are looking for, simply enter your own into the blank text area provided. (You'll have to check the box first.) Again, if enough people enter the same emotion as a write-in, we will add it to the standard check box options.
The "Submit a story" area is optional. If you have a story to share, simply leave the selection on "Yes" and then click submit. You will go to a screen for entering a story to accompany your 'Thank You' submission. If you do not want to share a story, change the selection to "No" and you will not be prompted to enter a story.
At the bottom of the stories section are 'tags'. These are words you can enter to help categorize your story. So if you share a story about something that happened on vacation, you can 'tag' the story with the word "vacation".
Oops! Did you submit a blank story? That's OK. If you do not enter any text, we will assume you did not want to submit a story. Either way, your 'Thank You' is still reflected in the statistics and totals.
Read, Share and Search stories:
The submitted stories are for everyone to read. They are intended to document the nice things which people do for one another. If you read a story you'd like to share with others, click on the "Share it" link above the story. (Visible from the full screen view only.) You share a story by entering your e-mail address in the "From" field and adding the e-mail(s) of those whom you wish to share the story in the "To" field. (Make sure you separate multiple e-mail addresses with a comma.)
Searching for stories is easy. Enter words into the search box which describe the story you are looking for and the search engine will return all stories which contain those words. (Up to 100 stories per search) Are you having trouble finding a story? Try filtering the search results by the most recent week, month, or year.
Rather than searching, try browsing by clicking on the 'Tag Cloud'. Each story is tagged with one or more words which describe the contents of the story. The larger the font, the more common that term is used. The smaller the font, the more unique the type of story.
Viewing the Statistics:
The graphs require Adobe Flash Player. This is a free download and your browser should automatically detect and download it. If you cannot see the graphs, you might need to check with your friendly computer expert to see why it is not loading.
The charts and graphs are an aggregation of all submissions. Think of it as a quick reference for what people are thankful for and what emotions these gestures conjure up. In addition, the statistics tab also displays the most common, recent or interesting write-ins for both "Thank You" and "Feeling".
Lastly, our staff "mines the data" looking for relationships and trends within the submissions that we share in the "Inside the numbers" section. For example: What is the most common emotion felt when a certain 'Thank You' is submitted? What emotions are most commonly paired in a submission? What type of Thank You has the highest percentage of stories being shared? What story is the most widely read?
