Broken wrists bring many challenges. Besides being totally reliant on my good husband for my every need, new insights began to surface. Slowly climbing out of pain, learning patience, a growing appreciation for my mate, and focusing on the most important things making our lives less complicated were a few things I appreciate. I also realize even more how important good humor can be, especially under the circumstances. For 5 days, until I could feed myself, my husband made light of meal time. "Here comes the airplane! Open the hanger"! Lots of laughs...
Concern from family and friends made love more real. One day, a woman whom I didn't know, called to say that she heard of my plight and wondered if she could bring over a meal. By this time, I had realized even more that by allowing others to serve brings blessings to not only the receiver, but also to the giver.
"Do you mind if my young girls come with me, as I want them to experience serving others?" "No", I didn't mind. They brought a wonderful meal that evening, the young girls smiling as we received the meal with gratitude. Later, we heard from their grandmother that they came home saying, "We love service!"
After church on Sunday, one of the girls gave me a handmade card with colored ladybugs on it. Included in the card was a note asking if I would keep in contact with her, as her family was moving out of state. My heart is full of gratefulness, and has replaced pain.
