I came out of the grocery store tonight and my car would not start. I spent a few minutes trying to get it to start, checking to make sure I was not forgetting something obvious. (Like having the car in gear) Finally I popped the hood and tried looking for what might be wrong, hoping for something obvious like a loose battery cable or a large neon light flashing which said "fix me".
While I found neither, I did hear an odd sound.
It was a voice asking, "Do you need a jump start?" I looked up and a nice gentleman had stopped to ask if I needed any assistance. It was unexpected and greatly appreciated. We spoke briefly and exchanged happy New Year wishes. And yes, I got my car started. It was almost as nice to hear the engine turnover as it was to hear those helpful words from a Good Samaritan.
