When I was in my 3rd year of college, my poor grades and an unsuccessful romantic relationship made me re-think my continuing at the university I was currently attending, so I transferred to another one in the same state. I was doing well in the new environment, enjoyed my classes and was making good grades, then my transcript "caught up" with me at the new school and I was informed by a letter that I was ineligible for continuing at that school for that semester and needed to leave. I was absolutely devastated, even shoring up my confidence and going directly to the Dean to ask for "mercy". He listened to my sobbing story and told me that I'd have to re-apply the following semester and that rules and regulations dictated that I couldn't stay.
I finally got the courage to call home and my mom answered the phone. She listened to me, understanding as best she could between sobs, and just said, "Well, honey, just come on home.." Neither she or Dad ever berated me, asked prying questions or made me feel unwelcome. I spent the rest of the semester and the summer with them, getting re-acquainted, getting my "act together", having fun times with my sister's girlfriend who was also at home that year, and my Mom and Dad never said anything about the whole affair. Their complete acceptance of my situation, giving me much-needed love and support when I needed it most, "healed" me and I was able to continue with my college education in the fall. I never forgot what it felt like to be loved so much that I felt completely uplifted, forgiven and blessed. My parents gave me the courage to step out on my own and make a successful life for myself..
